UK expert backs proposals to allow Jersey GPs to prescribe medicinal cannabis

Professor Michael Barnes, a neurologist and expert in medicinal cannabis, has given his support to plans to extend prescription powers in Jersey.

Islanders are currently able to receive a free prescription for a cannabis-based painkiller but it can only be issued by hospital staff.

Deputy Montfort Tadier's proposition, which would see all GPs on the island able to prescribe medicinal cannabis, will be debated by the States of Jersey today (Tuesday 6th November).

Professor Michael Barnes agrees with the proposition, calling for more expertise in the prescription process.
