Heart of Guillemont Memorial Stone brought to Jersey for WWI centenary
Part of a war memorial has been repatriated to Jersey as one of the events marking the centenary of the First World War.
The Guillemont Memorial was installed at the Somme to commemorate the Jerseymen who fought there.
More than 300 islanders went to battle, where 80 of them lost their lives.
The heart of the granite monument has now arrived in Jersey.
A service to mark the repatriation of the stone took place this evening (30th October) in St Helier.
It began at the Weighbridge and the stone was carried by soldiers of the Jersey Field Squadron to the Royal Square.
The stone will be permanently installed in the entrance of the Royal Court.
