Just over one hour since it was announced that Guernsey's referendum result will be binding the results having started to come in with Option A taking 37.45% of the vote.

Option A proposes island-wide voting be adopted, with 38 deputies elected every 4 years.

Voters were asked to rank the five options in order of preference, with number one being their favourite. 14,370 votes have been cast out of the 31, 865 people on the electoral role.

  • A - 5304 votes or 37.45%

  • B - 3486 votes or 24.62%

  • C - 3760 votes or 26.55%

  • D - 672 votes or 4.75%

  • E - 940 votes or 6.64%

An option needs more than 50% to be declared the winner, and that's unlikely to happen after the first count. Option D, which has the least votes, will be disqualified and second preferences from those ballot papers will be redistributed. This continues until one option has more than 50%.
