Jersey's Turner qualifies for Super League Triathlon series

Jersey's Ollie Turner has qualified to race in the rest of the Super League Triathlon series, which continues in Malta next month.

The 19-year-old needed to finish in the top five out of nine hopefuls in the Jersey event to earn a 'golden ticket' from organisers.

He was roared on by the home crowd in Sunday's 'enduro' format, which saw two athletes cut after each leg of three back-to-back triathlons.

Turner out-lasted the four others he needed to secure a top-five finish and will now race alongside the world's best in three more events in Malta, Mallorca, and Singapore this winter.

Super League Triathlon was back in Jersey following last year's inaugural event after the States agreed a five-year deal to host it in the island.

It is billed as the Formula One of triathlon and features new formats designed to create fast, dramatic racing.
