Rise in number of rabbits and guinea pigs being abandoned in Guernsey

The GSPCA says it has seen a large increase in the number of guinea pigs and rabbits being left at the shelter over the past months.

There are more than 50 being cared for at the moment, around 25 guinea pigs and 30 rabbits.

Staff say these are the highest numbers they have seen in recent years.

According to the GSPCA, there are a number of reasons why people are leaving their animals, including a change of circumstances where they can no longer care for their pets and cases of neglect.
