Jersey Electricity wants to introduce more vehicle charging stations
Jersey Electricity hopes that it will be able to introduce new electric vehicle charging stations across the island after a trial to establish its ‘smart app’.
If the trial is a success it hopes the States of Jersey will help to extend the charging network to locations outside of St Helier.
At present, electric vehicle users must have an account with Jersey Electricity to use their charge points but under the scheme drivers will either be issued with a contactless card or will download an app to gain access.
Jersey Electricity say there has been calls for more electric vehicle points and smarter ways to charge vehicle batteries.
The company hope to increase the public network to around 50 charging points but they have said this can’t be done without support from the States of Jersey.
Transport currently accounts for a third of the Island’s total emissions and the company hope the electric re-charging points will help combat its carbon output.
