Jersey's Environment department are asking islanders to report sightings of Colorado beetles.

Warm temperatures, high thermal instability and increased levels of beetle flight over the Cotentin Peninsula, has meant a rise in the creatures.

The States have issued a 5 day warning and have urged farmers to make their fieldworkers aware of what the insects look like.

Colorado beetles are known to be destructive to potato and tomato crops.

States agricultural inspectors are expected to make coastal checks over the coming days.

Any sightings of the insects should be reported to the States agricultural inspectors.
