Roman Abramovich tops rich list in Channel Islands

The Sunday Times has revealed that the richest person in the Channel Islands is the Chelsea Football Club owner, Roman Abramovich.

The Russian billionaire topped the list with a personal wealth at £9.3 billion.

It comes after he was given a "high value resident" status last year, even though he has not yet taken up residency in Jersey.

The Barclays Brothers, David and Frederick Barclay who are based in Brecqhou came second on the list with £7.4 billion.

The twin brothers remain considerably richer than retail owner Sir Philip Green who is fourth on the list with £2 billion.

Jersey residents Sir Philip and his wife Lady Green saw their wealth decrease by £787 million.

Steve Lansdown the majority shareholder of Bristol Rugby, Bristol Flyers, and Bristol City Football Club is the wealthiest person in Guernsey with £1.72 billion.

He is fifth on the overall list of the richest people across the Channel Islands.
