Liberation Day celebrations across the Channel Islands
Channel Islanders are celebrating the anniversary of the end of the Occupation.
It is 73 years since the German forces left Jersey and Guernsey and islanders are coming together to remember.
There are celebrations and commemorations throughout the day including live music and performances mainly at Liberation Square in Jersey, starting from 9:30am until 5:30pm.
In Guernsey, there will remembrance services held at Cobo Slipway at 10:00am as well as markets across the island.
On the 28th June that the Luftwaffe bombed Jersey and Guernsey, which were undefended.
44 people were killed and 2 days later the Germans took control of Guernsey.
Jersey surrendered to the Germans on 1st July and islanders had to show white flags over their houses to show they had surrendered.
It wasn't until the 9th May, a day after VE day that the Channel Islands were finally liberated.
The Occupation lasted from the 30th June 1940 until 9th May 1945.
