Experts give their opinion at public debate on assisted dying

More than 150 islanders attended a debate on assisted dying in Guernsey last night.

Palliative care specialists and experts from end-of-life organisations gave their views.For:

  • Richard Scheffe: a retired palliative care consultant, Director of Dignity in Dying

  • Rabbi Jonathan Romain: minister of Maidenhead Synagogue, Director of Dignity in Dying

Against:

  • Robert Preston: Director of think-tank Living and Dying Well

  • Dr Carol Davis: palliative care consultant and lead of Clinical End of Life Care at Southampton University Hospital

Islanders expressed strong feelings on both sides in a Q&A session after the debate.

Deputies will vote on the issue on 16th May.
