Guernsey's environment threatened by invasive species
Guernsey’s environment is being threatened by invasive species.
The species that pose a risk to the island are being highlighted this week a part of the annual ‘Invasive Species Week’.
The week is organised by the Non-Native Species Secretariat and starts today (23rd March).
An invasive species can be any kind of living organism - amphibian, plant, insect, bacteria, fungus or fish.
Each day during the week, a different invasive species will be promoted:
Friday 23rd March - The Asian Hornet
Saturday 24th March - Sour Fig
Sunday 25th March - Pampas Grass
Monday 26th March - German Ivy
Tuesday 27th March - Carpet Sea Squirt
Wednesday 28th March - Slipper Limpet
Thursday 29th March - Parrots Weather
Information on how to identify the species, the problems they are causing, and how to control them, will also be released on their respective days.
