A petition led by Guernsey's Chief Minister to look at assisted dying has received enough signatures to be debated.

Deputy Gavin St Pier has pushed for the topic to be discussed in the States and now has support from six other deputies.

The States will be asked to decide whether they agree on a legal regime to permit assisted dying in the island.

They will also discuss whether the Policy and Resources Committee should establish a working party to consult islanders and relevant groups to look into assisted dying. Members would report back within 18 months with recommendations of how the process could work in Guernsey.

Deputies will also be asked to consider how to include Alderney when developing any future policies.
