States catch 20% of fly-tippers

Jersey's States say they've caught 20% of fly-tippers within the last year.

150 reports of dumped rubbish were made to the States Environment Department during 2017, the majority through the Love Jersey app.

The States Environmental Protection team tracked down the culprits in 11 of the 50 incidents reported directly to them.

They say the UK's rate for successful prosecution is one in 650 cases.

The Department for the Environment, Infrastructure and the parishes are working together to draw attention to the rising number of incidents being reported and urging people to report it if they see waste tipped so offenders can be located.
