New Water UK refill scheme could come to Jersey
The head of Jersey Water says a new UK water initiative could make its way to Jersey.
This week Water UK announced it is set to provide thousands of free water stations across the country to cut the use of plastic bottles.
CEO of Jersey Water Helier Smith says he will be meeting with representatives of Water UK in February to discuss the scheme and see if a similar refill station plan would work in Jersey.
Just 4% of the water produced by Jersey Water is currently consumed.
The island company has recently provided thousands of reusable plastic bottles to school children to help combat Jersey's plastic pollution.
It is hoped an initiative like this could stop as many plastic bottles being imported to the island and reduce the amount of plastic islanders use.
