One of the Education, Sport & Culture committee members has resigned after their proposals for a 3 school model of secondary education lost out to an alternative 2-school plan.

Deputy Neil Inder handed his resignation in to the Bailiff soon as the vote on 2-schools was held.

Deputy Inder had warned, ahead of the debate, that he would leave ESC if the States did not back the committee's three-school plan.

Another ESC member, Deputy Andrea Dudley-Owen has also told ITV Channel she is likely to hand in her resignation from the committee.

But the potential for some kind of three-school structure is not entirely ruled out yet, as a late amendment from another ex-ESC member, Deputy Carl Meerveld has been laid.

He is proposing a model which is similar to the one defeated earlier today, but with changes to the post-16 education structure.

It would see three schools covering ages 11 to 16, based at the sites of La Mare De Carteret, Les Beaucamps and St Sampson's High.

There would also be a separate 6th form centre at the current Grammar school site, and a new establishment at what is currently the College of Further Education at the Les Ozouets campus, for all other post-16 education.
