Cheese for charity in Ernie's name
A new island charity has been set up in memory of Ernie Backlund-Leale, who lost his battle with Leukaemia three months ago.
Ernie’s Angels provides financial support to local families with terminally ill children by helping with respite care costs and funeral expenses.
The Dairy have produced a new cheese in Ernie’s name as a way to raise money for the charity.
Ernie was first diagnosed with leukaemia in January 2012. Family and friends rallied to arrange activities to keep his spirits up and, as a cheese lover, one of these was a trip to the Dairy.
All the profits from sales of Ernie’s (im)mature cheese will go to Ernie's Angels.
The staff at the Dairy have made this is possible by willingly giving up their free time to package and label the cheese.
