Decision on Alderney to Southampton air route to be delayed
The Committee for Economic Development (CfED) has delayed a meeting which could have led to a decision on the Alderney to Southampton air route.
States of Alderney members say they were shocked to learn of a proposal that Guernsey should no longer support the route financially, if no operator tendered for it.
The meeting to discuss this proposal was due to take place today but has been delayed after a petition attracted more than 500 signatures and the States of Alderney stressed the need for public consultation.
Following this pressure, the CfED has taken proposals off the meeting agenda so that further representations can be made.
The States of Alderney urged the CfED not to make any hasty decisions about removing the "lifeline" route.
