States members were asked to approve the new hospital site before final plans were available

A Jersey politician says he feels betrayed because States members were asked to approve the new hospital site before final plans were available.

Constable Chris Taylor made the comments at a public meeting in St Helier last night when pictures of the hospital from a different angle were shown.

The images, which are part of the planning application, were made public last month almost a year after the States agreed to the hospital being built on the existing site.

An engineer, who has been involved in the construction of hospitals in the UK, also spoke at the meeting.

Chris McCarthy believes the dust and noise of construction will seriously affect patient's health.

The Health Minister, Andrew Green, says the debate last year was about the site not the design.

He added, the health concerns have been exaggerated.

A public inquiry considering the planning application for the future hospital will begin on Monday.
