Guernsey’s Louise Perrio became the fastest woman from the Channel Islands to run a marathon after finishing in 2:49.59 in Frankfurt.

The previous best by a Guernsey athlete was the 2:54.19 set by Nikki Neal in London in 2016.

Perrio’s time, in her first official run over 26.2 miles, also took her inside the 2:50.39 achieved by Jersey’s Jo Gorrod, which Guernsey Athletics considers to have been the previous CI record.

Fellow Sarnian Lee Merrien was also in action in Germany over the weekend, finishing in 2:20.25.

Merrien will now wait on selection for next year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia, with Guernsey’s full team set to be confirmed in November.
