Twelve sightings of Portuguese Man O'Wars

Twelve sightings of Portuguese Man O’ Wars have now been recorded in Guernsey.

The most recent finds were on Belvoir Bay in Herm and on Saint’s Bay.

The species look like jellyfish and are usually found in the warmer waters of the Atlantic.

But recent warm temperatures have meant they've made their way to the South West of England and subsequently to Channel Island waters.

Guernsey States are reminding people to remain cautious when using any of the Bailiwick's beaches.

Swimmers are being advised to wear a wetsuit for maximum protection.

The States would also like anyone who spots one to photograph it and contact the Agriculture, Countryside and Land Management Services.
