Two Guernsey midwives found guilty of serious misconduct have been struck off
Two Guernsey midwives found guilty of serious misconduct have been struck off.
Lisa Granville and Tuija Roussel have been appearing at a Nursing and Midwifery Council hearing, concerning the deaths of two babies at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.
Midwife Antonia Manousaki, also found guilty of serious misconduct, has been given a 12 month suspension order.
They all have 28 days to appeal the decision.
The panel is still deciding whether Manousaki will be able to return to work during those 28 days or if the order will take immediate effect.
Staff at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital operated in a culture of administering drugs without prescriptions and not speaking to consultants in what was notoriously described as 'The 'Guernsey Way'.
Consultants were not called before women in the second stage of labour were given a drug which speeds up delivery and increases the babies heart rate in more than 50 per cent of cases.
It was a decision that would not be made 'anywhere else in Britain', the Nursing and Midwifery Council heard.
