A self-taught film director and writer from Jersey is in the running for a £50,000 prize for his first feature film.

Michael Pearce's thriller BEAST was based in Jersey, and won great acclaim at it's premiere at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this month.

It's described as a love story trapped within a horror film, and is set during the 1960's when the Beast of Jersey, Edward Paisnel, was at large.
