Jersey’s Scott Clayton and partner Jonny O’Mara are through to the second round of the doubles at Wimbledon after their opponents Paolo Lorenzi and Adrian Mannarino retired.

The British pair took the first set on a tie-break and were 4-3 down in the second when Lorenzi and Mannarino forfeited.

Clayton, ranked 257 for doubles, and O’Mara, 320, were given a wild card for the Championships.

Clayton is the first person from Jersey to play at Wimbledon - tennis’ most famous tournament.

They could face top seeds Henri Kontinen, who partnered Guernsey’s Heather Watson to mixed doubles glory last year, and John Peers in round two.

Earlier Watson won through to the third round of the singles to match her best ever performance at Wimbledon.
