Jersey Police 'important lessons have been learned'

The States of Jersey Police say 'important lessons have been learned,' following the probe into historical child abuse in the island.

The Independent Jersey Care Inquiry released its conclusions yesterday, following a three year investigation.

It found children were failed by authorities, with many suffering sexual, physical and emotional abuse at the hands of people employed to protect them.

The force described the investigation as being 'very thorough' and has vowed to consider the recommendations made within it.

Commenting on its findings, police said it was 'clear multi-agency responses to allegations of abuse in the past were not of the high standards we expect today.'
