Returning L’Ancresse wall to nature to cost States £1M

The wall casts a shadow over L'Ancresse Bay

The sea wall at L’Ancresse is to be returned to nature, with the project expected to cost the States £1M.

A 200 metre section of the WW2 anti-tank wall at L’Ancresse will be removed and a natural coastline allowed to redevelop, as it’s said repairing the wall would be too costly.

The States want to realign the beach instead of building a replacement wall.

Prior to WW2 the 1km wide bay at Pembroke/L’Ancresse was backed by sand dunes, similar to those at Les Amarreurs, Port Soif and Grande Rocques.
