Guernsey beat Jersey 2-1 at Footes Lane to regain the Muratti Vase for the first time since 2014.

They were ahead inside three minutes when Dom Heaume tapped home after Euan Van der Vliet parried Dave Rihoy’s shot.

Soon after Ross Allen latched onto a quick throw-in from Rihoy down the right before smashing a wonderful second across the Jersey goalkeeper.

Both sides featured captains leading their side in a Muratti for the first time; Guernsey by Craig Young, Jersey by Cav Miley.

Miley’s side hit the post twice in the first-half, but could not find the clear-cut chances in the second to match their possession and territory.

They did get one back when substitute Karl Hinds stabbed home from close range, but Guernsey’s bulked-up backline dug in for a famous win in front of a jubilant crowd.

It was only the Sarnian’s second Muratti win on home soil since 2001, and their first ever at Footes Lane.
