Jersey edge Guernsey to win ninth straight Siam
Jersey Reds beat Guernsey Raiders 20-18 in the closest Siam Cup since 2008 to lift the trophy for the ninth year in a row.
Guernsey created enough openings to feel they could have won their first Siam this decade, but Jersey, with just three first-team pros in their line-up, clinched another win in steady rain at St Peter.
Debutant Karl Haitana’s converted try saw the home side into a 7-3 lead at half-time, which they stretched to 14 points when Sam Fuller finished a back-to-front break.
But Guernsey managed to get back to within two after replacement Cameron Craine and then Tom Ceillam got over in the dying minutes.
It was left to Raiders’ Kenny Hellier to land a tough conversion to secure a share of the cup, but his kick, the last of the game, narrowly missed sparking wild Jersey celebrations.
