FAB cable link could bypass Alderney in new row

The company behind the controversial FAB cable link, which was expected to go through Alderney, have threatened to bypass the island altogether.

The planning application for the cable to go on the island requires a change in the local law, which the company says has now been delayed.

They are now calling for Alderney's States to press on with altering the planning laws, to allow an application for the cable link to be considered.

Chris Jenner, FAB Project’s Development Manager, says the original deal would have seen over £3 million paid to the States of Alderney for rights to lay the cables in the island’s jurisdiction.

He says they have written to James Dent, chairman of the States’ Policy and Finance Committee, inviting discussions with the States and their advisors.
