Jersey's RNLI Ops Manager suggests 'bullying'
St Helier's Lifeboat Operations Manager, James Gales, has confirmed he has resigned from the post following the decision by the local volunteer crew to abandon their roles in protest against Coxswain Andy Hibbs' dismissal.
Mr Gales has told ITV News he too is deeply disappointed at way the Coxswain has been treated and believes he has been the victim of "what appears to be institutional bullying".
He added: "how will local volunteers be assured they will not get the same treatment in the future if this is allowed to prevail?".
Mr Gales comments come the day that the crew released a public letter reaffirming their support for Andy Hibbs and restating they will not return to work until he is reinstated.
The RNLI responded to Mr Gales statement, saying they "take allegations of bullying very seriously".
They added: "we asked the Coxswain to step down over a serious breakdown in the relationship and breaches of the Volunteer Code of Conduct".
