Guernsey edge Jersey to reclaim squash inter-insular

Guernsey's Janick Radford beat Jersey's Rob Hickling in one of the day's decisive matches.

Wins for Henry Birch and Janick Radford saw Guernsey pull clear of Jersey to reclaim the squash inter-insular at Beau Sejour on Saturday.

Their two matches, which both went to five games, proved the difference as the home team won 11-9 overall.

Birch beat Mike Hopkins 3/11 11/4 4/11 11/3 11/2 in the top match, while Radford got the better of Rob Hickling 8/11 14/12 11/2 9/11 12/10.

Jersey’s ladies won 4-1 on the day, while Guernsey were 3-2 winners in racketball.

Both islands are set to compete in division three of the European Team Championships next month, which is being hosted in Jersey for the first time.
