Sam Quek: Athletes need to push women in sport
Olympic gold medallist Sam Quek is in Jersey for a Women in Sport event.
The Great Britain hockey was part of the team which beat the Netherlands for gold at Rio 2016.
She told ITV News all sports people need to support female athletes to give them more opportunities.
Quek explained: "When you're on the big stage at the World Championships or the Olympics you have to deliver as a womens' team, to make people stand up and take notice."
The defence player added it's difficult to hear about male teams who may get more sponsorship or support from commercial companies.
As a child, Quek faced a struggle to play football as a girl and was nearly kicked off the boys' team she played for.
The Jersey womens' football team are heading to Gotland this summer, to defend their gold title at the Island Games.
Quek says it can be "very, very difficult to win after winning" but the team should stay confident, not be complacent and "do what you do best".
