New £1.3m air traffic control system at Jersey Airport
A new £1.3 million system has arrived at Jersey Airport which allows air traffic controllers to operate away from the usual control tower.
It is the first airport in the British Isles to get it and the second in Europe.
A screen gives controllers a 220 degree view, mimicking the view from the tower.
Ports of Jersey say they have bought the equipment so planes can still operate if there is a catastrophic technical failure of equipment or an evacuation of the control tower.
Doug Bannister, CEO of Ports of Jersey, calls it an "exciting" time with Jersey Airport being "firmly at the leading edge" of new technology.
