Islanders encouraged to exchange their pound coins at high street banks
Channel Island pound coins are being withdrawn from circulation this year.
The decision follows the introduction of a new 12-sided UK one pound coin, and the withdrawal of its current version by October this year.
Islanders are being encouraged to exchange their pound coins at high street banks, which have been consulted as part of this decision.
Lee De Carteret, from Central Services Director, says the 'demand for the Guernsey pound coin just isn't there anymore' and islanders are 'much happier with the Guernsey one pound note'.
Guernsey one pound notes will continue to be issued alongside the circulation of the new UK one pound coins locally.
