Guernsey midwife misconduct hearing may not conclude until autumn

The three midwives

Three midwives facing misconduct charges following the death of a baby at Guernsey's Princess Elizabeth Hospital could have to wait seven months for a decision on their case.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council hearing opened four weeks ago and has been adjourned today until summer.

It will reconvene in July - with the panel also predicting it will need to meet again in the autumn.

There may not be a final result from the NMC until September due to the complexity of the case.

Lisa Granville, Tuija Roussel and Antonia Manousaki are all accused of failing to follow appropriate procedures and practises at the the Princess Elizabeth Hospital's Loveridge Ward, where they were working at the time a baby died in 2014.

They deny some, but not all, of the charges against them.

Yesterday, two of the accused submitted applications that they had no case to answer.

A decision on those applications is now expected when the hearing reconvenes on 17th July, when the panel will sit for two weeks.

All evidence supporting claims of misconduct has now been heard - the midwives will be able to offer evidence in their defence when the hearing meets again.
