Deputy Leadbeater resigns from Education Committee

Deputy Marc Leadbeater has resigned from the Education Committee, after a split in the Committee's view of the education system.

The Deputy said the move "wasn't taken lightly" and called it "a very difficult decision".

On Friday a group of politicians called for the Education Committee to resign over "profound concerns" they won't be able to implement changes to the system, voted for by the government.

Last week the States decided to scrap the eleven plus exam and the Grammar School, in favour of an all inclusive system.

Deputy Leadbeater voted in favour of an inclusive system but said "I believe it’s (my resignation) in the best interests of all areas under the Committee mandate that the States has total confidence in its population."
