Life expectancy in Guernsey at highest ever recorded
Life expectancy in Guernsey is at the highest ever recorded according to an island health report released today.
But with half the deaths of under 75s likely to be preventable, and with an aging population, the report warns the need for health and social care services will likely rise in the coming years.
While life expectancy at 65 years old is now 85 for men and 87 for women.
But the message from the Health department is islanders could be living longer. Over half the deaths for under 75s are likely to be preventable
The report for the years 2013-15 shows there were on average 548 deaths in Guernsey a year.
The report also highlights that with an aging population the need for health and social care services will likely rise in the coming years.
