Tax evasion accusations are 'political grandstanding'
Accusations that the Channel Islands are part of the 'largest tax evasion network in the world' are just 'political grandstanding', according to Jersey Finance's CEO.
Geoff Cook says Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott made the 'factless' comments to 'outdo' other political parties on fighting financial crime.
He told ITV News that there is 'bags of evidence' to show Jersey 'is not a tax haven'.
Recent research shows the island contributes £14 billion to the UK economy.
On top of that an independent organisation found 'high compliance' with financial crime law.
Geoff says the belief comes from a time when check and balances 'weren't in place to the same extent'.
