Vice-President proposing 'middle road' for education

Education's Vice-President says he is proposing a 'middle road' for the system, which would see Guernsey's Grammar School merge with the College of Further Education.

Deputy Carl Meerveld is launching his views on the education debate which is due to take place at the end of November.

He wants to scrap the eleven plus exam, opposing the view of his President, Deputy Paul Le Pelley, who wants to keep the Grammar School.

Deputy Meervald says he recognises the Grammar is 'a school of excellence' but he think the selective system is outdated.

He explains he believes 'chosen pathways' for students at 14 is a better alternative.
