Black butter making starts today

Dozens of volunteers start peeling apples today to help the National Trust make Jersey's favourite speciality: black butter.

It's a tradition carried out every year and peelers are rewarded with tea and homemade cake.

On Friday the apples start to be stirred in a giant copper bachin and they will be cooked throughout the night.

Bean Croque will be served to keep stirrers going overnight and the Jersey Ukulele Band will keep the atmosphere lively.

Towards the end of the apples being cooked spices, liquorice and lemons and are added.

Finally, by Saturday lunchtime the spread will be put into jars.
