Leale's Yard development plans approved

Plans to build hundreds of new homes at Leale's Yard in Guernsey have been given the go ahead.

Developers will build more than 400 homes and parking spaces, as well as retail units and a public plaza.

The Channel Islands Co-operative Society says they want to turn the site into a "vibrant and thriving community".

They estimate the project could bring £300 million into the island.

It is one of two developments approved at an open planning meeting today, the other being Admiral Park.

Developers can now begin work on the site, although they will have to go through another stage of approval for the plans to get the full go ahead.

Under planning laws, work on the site must begin in the next three years but Channel Islands Co-operative CEO, Colin Macleod, says it will be "much sooner".
