Jersey Senator candidate drops out of hustings

Candidates were nominated at St Helier Town Hall last week

A candidate standing for Senator in Jersey has dropped out of the hustings events because of a lack of 'ready answers'.

Alvin Aaron announced his decision at last night's hustings in St Clement.

The local businessman says he is 'not a politician as yet' and doesn't have 'ready answers to the set political questions'.

He says he will accept the views of the the other ten candidates 'as read' without listening to a 'nightly repetition' of them.

There are nine more hustings events to take place before the by-election on September 7th, which will see those standing quizzed by the public about election issues.

The first happened in St Saviour on Monday, the second at St Clement Parish Hall yesterday evening.

Mr Aaron says he is keen to hear islanders questions, but would rather do it face to face and have time to research replies.

The other candidates standing for election are:

  • Political campaigner, Mike Dun

  • Former politician and Journalist, Guy De Faye

  • Former Senator, Sarah Ferguson

  • Former Deputy, Nick Le Cornu

  • Entertainer, Stevie Ocean

  • Equality campaigner and lawyer, Christian May

  • Current Deputy, Sam Mezec

  • Businesswoman, Mary O'Keeffe Burgher

  • President of the Honorary Police and Sports Council Chairman, Hugh Raymond

  • Ex-Deputy and former Head of the Environment Department, John Young
