Second round action for Watson in Rio
Guernsey tennis star Heather Watson heads into the second round at the Rio Olympics today.
Her first victory was in the singles tournament, against Shuai Peng of China.
Today she takes on Ukraine's Elina Svitolina.
The British number two was made to work hard for her singles victory though, as it took her two and a half hours to see off world number 264, Peng.
The Sarnian looked in control having taken the first set 6-4, and was up a break in the second which gave her the chance to serve out the match.
But she was not able to seize that opportunity and Peng kept her composure to take the second set on a tie break.
The deciding set ebbed and flowed but Watson, after breaking again, did not pass up the opportunity to serve out the match for a second time.
The Guernsey tennis star has also progressed to the second round of the women's doubles after she teamed up wth Johanna Konta to beat Serbia's Jelena Jankovic and Aleksandra Krunic 6-2 6-1 in the opening round.
