Nearly 200 islanders in Guernsey have complained about the taste or smell of their water in the last year.

Guernsey Water says it received a total of 223 complaints – three quarters of which were about the odour or the taste of the water.

The company says it will be addressing the "earthy" taste of water, caused by dying algae in its reservoirs.

However, it says its water does meet UK regulations.

Despite a drop in water quality for the second year running, the quality of water has improved since 2005 - when 99.4% of samples complied with UK standards, compared to 99.8% last year.
