David Cameron: we will work with Crown Dependencies during EU negotiations
David Cameron has told the House of Commons the government will be working with Crown Dependencies during EU negotiations.
The UK Prime Minister said the interests of all parts of the United Kingdom must be 'protected and advanced'.
Although the Channel Islands are not officially part of the United Kingdom, he added that they will be consulted.
The Channel Islands is not a member state of the EU, but they are within the Single Market and have an official relationship with the union through the UK's membership (Protocol Three).
The UK's move to leave the EU now means the Channel Islands must renegotiate their relationship.
Political leaders have stressed that they don't want it to change in nature.
Mr Cameron's comments came during a speech about the result of the EU Referendum, which saw over 17m people vote to leave the European Union last week.
Cameron reiterated his concerns about the risk of leaving the union, saying the process would be 'difficult' highlighting 'adjustments to the economy, complex constitutional issues and a challenging new negotiation with Europe'.
