An animal expert from Jersey has said a child could have been 'accidentally' killed by a gorilla at a zoo in Ohio.

Harambe the 17-year-old Western lowland was shot and killed by zoo keepers at Cincinnati Zoo, after a four-year-old boy crawled through a barrier and into his enclosure.

A video captured the gorilla dragging the boy around by his ankle.

Experts at Durrell Wildlife Park say the behaviour, while not intentionally aggressive, could have seriously harmed the boy.

Durrell's Head of Mammals says the decision to shoot the animal would not have been taken lightly.
