This year's Miss Alderney crowned

A 22-year-old finance worker has been crowned this year’s Miss Alderney.

Roisin Gaudion beat off competition from 16 other candidates at the annual Miss Alderney disco, which took place on Saturday night at the Island Hall.

Miss Gaudion was chosen by two independent judges and she selected 16-year-old Sophie Luke as her Maid of Honour.

Star O’Connor, aged 11, was named as Little Miss Alderney, and Isaac Morris, aged 9, was crowned Little Master Alderney.

Miss Gaudion will launch this year’s Alderney Week, and travel to Jersey for that Island’s Battle of Flowers pageant.

She told how she had entered the competition for several years running but had decided that 2016 would be the last time she entered it.

The consort role was introduced this year, and Miss Luke will support her friend by taking on some of the smaller duties.

‘I am thrilled to be Roisin’s consort,’ she said. ‘I plan apply for Miss Alderney when I’m old enough in years to come.’

Alderney Week organiser Emma Odoli said she was impressed with the number of applicants.

The theme of this year’s Alderney Week is cartoon and comic books.

It runs from 30th July until August 6th.
