Phil Sharp looks for Jersey's help to take on the toughest challenge in the world
He recently made it into the record books for setting the fastest ever time sailing between Land's End and John O'Groats.
But this was just a warm up for Phil Sharp.
His sights are now set on a much bigger achievement, he intends to compete in the Vendee Globe, the most prestigious and toughest sailing race in the world.
Our sports reporter Chris Cunningham went to meet him:
The Vendee Globe is considered by many as the toughest challenge in the world.
Referred to as Sailing’s Everest, this is the only solo, non-stop race around the planet, so unique that less than 100 people have completed this epic journey around the planet, compared to more than 500 people having been into space.
And it is a reputation that is well deserved, as competitors set off from 'Les Sables d'Olonne' in France, sail down the Atlantic, pass the Cape of Good hope and then navigate clockwise around Antarctica.
There they face some of the coldest and roughest seas in the world in the dreaded Roaring Forties and Furious fifties.
Far from the reach of emergency response crews each sailor has to fight freezing conditions and waves the size of buildings.
Conditions so brutal that about a third of participants have to retire before they reach the shores of France again.
But getting to the Vendee's start line is just as challenging as the race itself.
Over the last 18 months Phil Sharp and his team have been trying to secure the funds necessary to take part in the Vendee, an adventure that can cost up to £1.5 million.
Their campaign is now at a critical stage as they have until Friday to raise the remaining 10% they need.
To do this they are looking for Jersey businesses to get on board and be part of the challenge.
