Our son is alive thanks to the generosity of islanders
The parents of a teenager from Guernsey say their son is alive thanks to the generosity of islanders.
17-year-old Jonah Gillingham has a rare life threatening blood disorder and today he thanked islanders for helping him.
Jonah was diagnosed with the blood disorder, atypical hemolytic-uremic syndrome (aHUS) after receiving treatment for leukaemia.
Jonah's parents started fundraising after Health and Social Services (HSSD) said they would not continue funding the drug recommended by his doctors.
Islanders have rallied around the family and helped them raise more than £100,000 in just over three months which is paying for his treatment.
Doctors now believe his condition could clear up after one year taking the drug, but the family still have a way to go with fundraising.
HSSD says the drug is too expensive and not proven for Jonah's condition.
