Match report: Team Jets take on rivals Kent County

Jersey played their first game of the year on Sunday, they hosted rivals Kent County. Kent was one of the teams promoted to Premier 2 this season alongside Jersey.

Before Christmas the Jets had a good run of games going four matches undefeated.

Our reporter Chris Cunningham was at Fort Regent to see if the jets would get their year off to a flying start:

Both teams came out strong in the first quarter and it was end to end action, neither team managing to gain any significant advantage.

Jersey seemed to gain in confidence in the second quarter but every time they seemed to build up momentum Kent found a way to come back into the game. Their goal attack Laura Morton playing the perfect quarter and scoring 11 from 11.

Jets centre Jacy Brown was named player of the match.

It was in the third that Jersey finally broke through. As their defence tightened, their attack thrived and Kent started to crumble. The Jets goal attack Lynsey Pitman scoring an impressive 12 in the quarter.

Going into the final quarter 11 points up it all seemed done and dusted. Kent valiantly fought on but it was to be Jersey's day, the game finishing 62-50. Jersey's early season defeat to Kent now well and truly put behind them.

With such a strong start to the season Jets fans will be wondering how far can this team go?
