Plans to move St John to Home Department
Guernsey’s St John Ambulance service will move under the responsibility of the Home Department if new plans are accepted.
At the moment Guernsey’s Health Department has responsibility for the budget of St John.
The new structure of St John could see Ambulance services move into a joint building with the island’s Fire Department which is also under the control of the Home Department.
John Hollis who has chaired the Steering Group behind the plans said
One of the key factors in this review was when last year, Guernsey's ambulance service was bailed out by the Civil Contingencies Authority in a move which secured it’s future for four years.
At the moment it’s not clear how much the process of transferring the service from HSSD to the Home Department will cost, but members of the Steering Group have insisted there will be efficiency savings under the new format.
